Early and Comprehensive Brain Building

Our Braineer Educators are heavily influenced by the Reggio approach. The Reggio Emilia approach is an educational philosophy and pedagogy focused on preschool and primary education. This approach is a student-centred and constructivist self-guided curriculum that uses self-directed, experiential learning in relationship-driven environments. The programme is based on the principles of respect, responsibility and community through exploration, discovery and play.

At the core of this philosophy is the assumption that children form their own personality during the early years of development and that they are endowed with “a hundred languages”, through which they can express their ideas. The aim of the Reggio approach is to teach children how to use these symbolic languages (e.g. painting, sculpting, drama) in everyday life. This approach was developed after World War II by pedagogist Loris Malaguzzi and parents in the villages around Reggio Emilia, Italy. The name of the approach, therefore, derives its name from the city.

Besides integrating much of the creative art into our programs with the Reggio Approach, we also believe in the theory of multiple intelligences; this theory challenges the idea of a single IQ, where human beings have one central “computer” where intelligence is housed. Howard Gardner, the Harvard professor who originally proposed the theory, says that there are multiple types of human intelligence, each representing different ways of processing information. Based on this, we emphasize on giving children early exposure to logical thinking and sciences, by teaching coding (way of thinking) and STEM with age-appropriate tools and materials.

Developing Numeracy and Literacy with Acclaimed Curricula

Our play-based education is inspired by internationally acclaimed curriculums such as Singapore Math, Letterland, and Raz-plus. Braineer teachers firmly believe that Play-based learning is real learning. Many people, including some educators, believe that we need to choose between play-based learning opportunities and rigorous academic standards, while at Braineer, we believe that integrating the two is very possible.

The Whole Child Approach for Social-Emotional Learning

Preparing a child for life beyond education is about far more than good examination results. They need to be armed with skills that enable them to deal with the demands of growing up, entering the workplace and achieving long-term success. The whole child approach is about holistic education, where learning looks beyond the classroom to support personal development and is focused on the individual.

At Braineer, our educators recognize their responsibility to support the health and happiness of their students and not just their academic results. We, therefore, emphasize the development of executive function and self-regulation skills, as well as resilience in children.

Executive function and self-regulation skills are like an air traffic control system in the brain—they help us manage information, make decisions, and plan ahead. We need these skills at every stage of life, and while no one is born with them, we are all born with the potential to develop them. We follow the guidelines created by the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University to create our own way of education, to develop and practice these skills for our children.

Guided and Proactive Parent Engagement

Parent engagement matters. Study after study has shown us that student achievement improves when parents play an active role in their children’s education, and that good schools become even better schools when parents are involved. It is recognized that parent engagement is a key factor in the enhancement of student achievement and well-being.

It is equally important to recognize that parent involvement takes many forms. At Braineer, we use the cutting-edge communication software to keep our parents in the loop, with weekly doses of photos and “teachable moments” to keep the conversations going. We pay special attention to each and every child’s development and ensure to fully engage with parents when necessary.
